Butterflies and Myths

There are few things more magical than looking up at the sky and watching butterflies float past. Symbols of love, renewal, and joy, these creatures are among some of the most beautiful! Many of us have wanted to somehow capture the mesmerizing colors and patterns of butterfly wings, but they are hard to replicate. Nothing quite comes close enough to the real thing. That’s what has inspired the brand Butterflies and Myths - finding a way to honor the beauty of the butterfly, while making breathtaking jewelry.

Butterflies And Myths Butterflies

Yolanda Ormachea is the jewelry designer of “Butterflies and Myths,” who uses real butterfly wings and sets them in sterling silver. All of her jewelry is eco-friendly and waterproof. Her business has been open for ten years, it originally started with just her but now she has a full team working in Peru to make her beautiful jewelry. She sells necklaces, bracelets and spinning rings that reflect beautifully under light. All of her pieces will have people asking where you got them from!

She says that butterflies remind her of her grandmother's love and freedom. This meaning fits into many cultures and lives. To some, it’s a sign from their god or gods that they could be going in the right path or making the correct decision. Native American tribes believe that butterflies are helpful towards children's dreams. People in the tribe would give children a butterfly to set free and get the blessing of sweet dreams.

A lesser known meaning is that a butterfly is a soul, more specifically a loved one or someone who has passed that you were close with. This belief ties in closely with the basic meaning behind butterflies as rebirth and ‘visiting’ is a sign of faith and hope. Butterflies are a symbol of growth, love, prosperity and being unique. Every butterfly is not the same, just like people. Yolanda says about her grandmother,  “I felt her presence and understood her message about the cycle of rebirth, passion, freedom, life and love.”

Yolanda says that the butterfly wings she uses are real, but removing the wings is not harmful to the butterfly. She works with a butterfly farm close to her, after the butterflies live their lives and pass away she carefully removes the wings with her team and sets them in resin. The butterflies are given a new way to spread their message and purpose in Ormacha’s jewelry.

This necklace (or window art!) is truly unique, the center piece is a life sized shape of a butterfly. Both sides to the wings are only cut slightly to fit the sterling silver, but it is still a true butterfly around your neck.Showcasing in the front is a gorgeous iridescent butterfly. The outskirts are a bright royal blue, but towards the center is a pearl white that looks as if it had been painted on. The back of the pendant is more down to earth. With all different shades of cream and brown. The back wings are beautiful in their own way because of their very unique pattern.
